Story Sale – Weird Horror Magazine!

It’s been a while since I announced any confirmed news on this site (plenty of that to come soon) but I have some news I’m thrilled to share.

My story ‘Aperture’ will be published in Volume 5 of Weird Horror Magazine that’s scheduled for the Autumn.

Undertow Publications have put out some fantastic books and magazines over the years so it’s genuinely an honour to be working with a press I really admire.

‘Aperture’ is a happy accident of two things. Firstly, my new(ish) love for photography and different versions of the world you can see through the lens and secondly, reading Writing the Uncanny (ed. Dan Coxon & Richard V. Hirst). I gobbled the book down earlier this year and it had a profound effect on my reading and writing. This excellent tome got me thinking about other ways to tell stories and how to vary my approach.

‘Aperture’ is the first of three stories that I’ve written with a new perspective and I’m hopeful that the others will also find such welcoming homes.

There’s no release date for Weird Horror Magazine yet, but I’ll keep you posted on social media as and when it’s announced.

I’m off for a brew and a sweet treat to celebrate.

Dan

It’s here. A new novel. Finally… Coming 21 November 2025, Lionhearts is about to hit the shelves. This book is a rough one. I’m billing it as This Is England meets Taxi Driver. This week I completed a significant achievement in my writing. I finished a novel. As I said in my post, The First Cut, I’ve always struggled with imposter syndrome and not feeling like a “real writer”. Today I feel like I’ve made a breakthrough. I’ve always written stories and since I was a kid, I’d…

Today is my fortieth birthday. Growing up, I’d somehow convinced myself I’d never see thirty. I don’t know why. Touch wood, I have no serious health conditions. Perhaps it was just my relentless worship of Kurt Cobain that made me feel like that. Yet here I am, ten years on and still going (relatively) strong….

It’s crazy how quickly the weeks (and months) can rack up with no updates on this site. My apologies. I’ve been dedicated to producing my author newsletter on a regular basis, so all the news and recommendations you can ever dream of are waiting for you here. As ever, things have been busy. Since Territory…
